Winfield Scott Elementary, Eugene Ware Elementary, and our Pre-K Building have an instructional coach position available for the 2024-2025 school year.
Basic Duties:
At USD 234, instructional coaches work closely with the Director of Academics, building principals, and teachers to create an environment for student success. The Fort Scott School District values growth for all students and seeks to provide teachers with support to ensure this is possible. Instructional coaches work collaboratively to provide strategies, implementation support, and feedback to teachers, while also remaining involved in district-level conversations to ensure alignment across all grade levels. Additionally, instructional coaches work to provide meaningful professional development opportunities to all staff.
Areas of focus for 2021-22 include:
- Professional Learning Communities
- Structured literacy as related to the KSDE Dyslexia Initiative
- MTSS Implementation
- A consistent approach to writing
- Implementation of the new social studies assessment
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in education
- 5+ years of successful teaching experience at various grade levels
- Advanced degree or progress toward advanced degree preferred
General Duties/Responsibilities:
- Professional development
- Plan and deliver building and district-level training
- Train new teachers on building-level procedures
- Assist individual teachers as requested by principal or teacher

- Organize and request materials needed for curriculum implementation

- Assist teachers in
- Developing appropriate goals for growth
- Reflecting on student data to guide instruction
- Coordinate and support interventions for students in Tiers 2 and 3
- Meet with building principals regularly to discuss schedule
- Team teach or assist teachers as requested by building principal or teacher
- Coordinate and administer assessments (MAP, placement tests, FastBridge, etc.)
- Model classroom lessons that include Best Practices in Teaching and Learning
- Partner with classroom teachers to focus on integration of standards and technology
- Work with teams to integrate writing, problem solving, and technology in all content areas
- Ensure fidelity of curriculum/program components
